She carries it, and the line that wraps her is the thing that holds her.

ALA is our oversized raglan boyfriend tee in antique white, cut wide and boxy with deep green sleeves and a raw, unfinished hem. The roomiest thing you own, carrying a piece of original artwork.

The illustration is called Earth Daughter, hand-carved into a lino block by Ayumi & Arki, our two founders, and hand-pulled in deep forest green. A woman seen from behind and slightly turned, head bowed, her whole body simplified into one shape. A single line travels across her and wraps around her. The circle at her chest is the moon.

Ala means wing. We made it for the women who hold everything together and rarely get held back.

Cut on the raglan block, from 160gsm GOTS-certified organic combed cotton jersey — the mid-light weight that carries from summer into layering season. The artwork sits across the chest. Nothing across the back.

The OD Cut Guide

Oversized (+) OS
Extra-OS (++) XOS

Cut oversized and boxy on the 306 raglan block, with a raw unfinished hem that sits at the hip. As roomy through the chest as our extra-oversized tees but shorter in the body, and the AU sizing runs one size down from them. Take your usual size for the intended drape, or size down one for a neater fit.

Why you’ll live in it

— Original artwork, hand-carved into lino in our own studio, not a bought graphic
— Lightweight 160gsm organic combed cotton jersey — soft, breathable, year-round
— Oversized raglan cut, wide and boxy through the body with a shorter length
— Deep green raglan sleeves, neckline to cuff — the detail that makes it
— Raw single-stitch hem — one row of stitching, cut edge left unfinished below it, so it softens and curls a little with wear
— 2.1cm rib at the neck and sleeve ends, in matching green, so the edges hold their shape
— Shoulder-to-shoulder tape — built for longevity
— Pre-shrunk, so it keeps its fit wash after wash
— Tear-away main label — no scratch, no fuss
— Cotton size tag and cotton care label — no plastic in the trims
— GOTS-certified organic cotton, with a GOTS organic paper tag — no compromises
— Six sizes, XS to 2XL

WHY THERE ARE ONLY 25

We make small runs because we’d rather sell out than write off. 25 of ALA exist. When they’re gone, we don’t reprint. The next episode is already in the works, and the point of an episode is that it ends.

It’s not a tactic. Overproduction is the single biggest problem in this industry, and the only honest way a small label avoids contributing to it is to make less than it thinks it can sell.

It matters more than usual here. Earth Daughter was carved once, by hand, into a single lino block. Every print came off that one block, which is why no two are identical.

Fit and sizing

ALA is designed to be worn oversized. Take your usual size for that wide, easy line. If you’d prefer it neater, size down one.

Two things worth knowing, because this block is different to our others.

The AU sizing runs one down from our jersey tees. On ALA, XS is an AU 6–8 and S is an AU 8–10. If you’ve bought ROJA, FLO or MIRA from us, you’ll likely be one size up from your usual OD size here — check the chart rather than your last order.

It’s wide but short. At the same AU size, ALA is about as wide across the chest as our jersey tees but roughly 7cm shorter in the body. It sits at the hip rather than below it. If you want more length, size up — each size adds 1.5cm. The hem is cut raw and left unfinished, so it sits a little looser and moves more than a stitched hem.

On our models: Monique is 170cm, usually a size 8, and wears a size S. Jason is 185cm, usually an XL, and wears an XL.

SIZE GUIDE (CM)

Size Guide

Size AU Chest Length Sleeve
XS 6–8 58.5 60.5 38
S 8–10 61 62 39
M 10–12 63.5 63.5 40
L 12–14 66 65 41
XL 14–16 68.5 66.5 42
2XL 16–18 71 68 43

AU sizes shown are standard Australian women's sizing, as a guide only. ALA is unisex, and this block runs one AU size down from our jersey tees — if you have bought ROJA, FLO or MIRA from us, you are likely one size up here. If you usually wear men's sizing, go by the chest measurement.

Measurements are point to point on the flat garment, in centimetres. They include a little extra length and width to allow for natural shrinkage, so ALA stays comfortable after washing. The hem is cut raw and left unfinished, so it sits a little looser than a stitched hem.

Where to measure from

The easiest way to find your size: take a piece you already own and love the fit of, lay it flat, and compare it to the numbers above.

Chest
Armpit to armpit, straight across. This is a flat measurement, so double it for the full body circumference. A size M measures 63.5cm flat, about 127cm around.
Length
From the top of the shoulder at the neck, straight down to the raw hem.
Sleeve
From the neckline seam to the sleeve hem. ALA is a raglan, so the sleeve seam starts at the neck rather than the shoulder — this measurement is longer than a set-in sleeve measurement and is not comparable to one.
FABRIC & FEEL

160gsm GOTS-certified organic combed cotton jersey — the mid-light weight that does everything. Combed cotton is spun from longer, smoother fibres, so it’s softer against the skin and wears longer than standard cotton. Light enough for a Byron summer, easy enough to layer when it turns.

The 2.1cm rib at the neck and sleeve ends is what stops an oversized tee going shapeless at the edges. The hem is deliberately different: a single row of stitching with the cut edge left raw below it, so it softens with every wash rather than holding a hard finished line.

The print is a hand-carved lino cut, so the ink sits in the fibre rather than as a film on top of it. You can see the grain of the block in it. It moves with the cotton instead of cracking off it.

CARE

Made to last, wash it like you mean it

— Cold machine wash with like colours
— Wash inside-out to protect the artwork
— Do not bleach
— Do not tumble dry
— Reshape and line dry in the shade
— Do not iron over the print

FAQs

Is it unisex?
Yes. It’s a raglan block sized XS–2XL and both our models wear it. The AU sizes in the guide are a women’s-sizing reference only — if you usually wear men’s sizing, go by the chest measurement.

I’m already an OD size — do I order the same? Probably not. This block runs one AU size down from our jersey tees. Our usual XS is an AU 8–10; ALA’s XS is an AU 6–8. Most of our customers will be one size up from their usual OD size. Check the chest measurement against a tee you already own.

Is it cropped?
No. It’s shorter than our jersey tees — about 7cm shorter at the same AU size — and it finishes at the hip. Size up if you want more length.

Is the raw hem a fault?
No. There’s a single row of stitching holding it, and the edge below is cut and left unfinished on purpose. It will soften and curl slightly with wear and washing. It won’t unravel.

Will it shrink?
It’s pre-shrunk, so no meaningful shrinkage if you follow the care instructions. The measurements already include a small allowance for it.

Why does my print look slightly different to the photo?
Because it’s a lino cut. The block was carved once by hand and every print came off it, so the ink coverage varies a little piece to piece. That’s the medium, not a flaw.

How will the artwork wear?
The ink sits with the fabric rather than on top of it, so it softens as the tee does. Wash inside-out, keep the iron off it, and it’ll outlast most things in your drawer.

Can I get it in another colour?
Not this one. Earth Daughter was carved for this episode, in this colourway, and there are [N].

What if it doesn’t fit?
Free exchange, 30 days. Just email us.

FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

We named this label Oldest Daughter because the women who carry the most deserve clothes built to carry them back. Earth Daughter is Ayumi cutting that idea into a block by hand — a woman holding herself, and being held by the line that wraps her.

Every piece starts with one question: will this still be in your wardrobe in five years? Certified-organic fibres, considered construction, small runs, nothing wasted.
