DEE is the organic cotton denim shirt we built for the women who live between the water and the long Sunday lunch — thrown over swimwear at the beach, pulled on over linen for the afternoon, worn alone with bare legs at sunset.

The OD Cut Guide
Cut regular — a proper denim shirt, tailored on a women's block. Point collar with a collar stand and a contrast button, front placket, forwarded shoulder, back yoke, set-in sleeves and a two-button cuff. Woven denim at 235gsm, so it has real weight and holds its shape from the first wear. Take your usual size.
Cut positions are relative to standard Australian women's sizing. DEE is cut on a women's block, not unisex. It is woven denim rather than jersey, so it has no stretch — the fit is that of a classic shirt.

The 235gsm organic denim is heavy enough to hold its shape, light enough to layer comfortably in summer. The garment wash means it arrives soft and lived-in — none of that stiff, scratchy new-denim feeling that takes a year to wear out of a cheaper shirt.

PERRY is cut as a relaxed unisex medium fit.
Worn on a women's frame, it reads as intentionally oversized — sitting clean at the shoulder, falling softly through the body and hip, with sleeves that hit at the wrist or just past.

DEE is woven denim, not jersey. It has no stretch, so it fits differently to our tees: a size M measures 53cm across the chest, about 106cm around, which is the standard room a shirt needs to move in. It is not oversized. At 235gsm it is the heaviest piece we make — it will feel substantial and soften with wear rather than out of the bag. Long enough to sit over the hip, and made to be worn open over a tee as much as buttoned. Take your usual size.

The easiest way to find your size: take a denim or button-up shirt you already own and love the fit of, lay it flat and buttoned, and compare it to the numbers above — check the sleeve as well as the chest.

Why heavyweight matters: Lighter denim shirts (170-200gsm) feel flimsy, lose their structure within months, and drape poorly when worn open. DEE's 235gsm woven denim has the body of a proper denim piece — substantial in the hand, structured at the shoulder, with the soft hand you only get from genuine garment washing.
Why ring-spun carded: A traditional yarn process that produces denim with the slight irregularities and character that machine-made cotton lacks. The result is denim that develops a unique fade pattern with you over time — every DEE shirt looks slightly different after twelve months of wear. That's the point.
Why indigo yarn-dyed: Each thread is dyed before weaving, not after — which means the colour wears beautifully with age, fading on the high-wear points (cuffs, collar, shoulders) the way only real indigo denim does. The wash you start with is just the beginning.
Garment-washed before shipping — so DEE arrives soft, with the lived-in feel that usually takes months to develop, and minimal further shrinkage in your washing machine.
A note on indigo: Indigo-dyed denim may transfer colour onto light-coloured fabrics on first few wears, particularly when wet. Wash separately for the first three washes, and avoid wearing with pale cream linen or white silk in damp conditions until the indigo has stabilised.

Can DEE be worn as a beach cover-up?
Yes — that's one of the ways we designed her. Worn open over swimwear, DEE drapes beautifully from the shoulder and provides genuine sun coverage without overheating. The garment-washed cotton is soft enough to wear against bare skin, and the indigo dye is stable enough to handle salt water and sand (though we'd recommend rinsing before machine washing).
Can I wear it in the water?
DEE can absolutely get wet — the photography you see was shot in the ocean. That said, prolonged saltwater exposure will accelerate the indigo fade, and chlorine pool water will affect the colour more dramatically. If you plan to swim in DEE regularly, expect her to develop a more sun-bleached patina over time. Many would call this an upgrade.
Will the indigo bleed onto my swimwear?
Possibly, in the first few wears — particularly when wet. We'd suggest wearing DEE over dark or patterned swimwear initially. After 3-5 washes, the indigo stabilises and bleeding stops.
How is this different from a regular denim shirt?
Most denim shirts use non-organic cotton, polyester-blend thread, and faster construction. DEE is 100% certified-organic cotton, woven in Bangladesh in a Fair Wear member factory, with single-needle topstitch construction rather than the chain-stitch shortcut used in mass production, and a carefully printed em, with single-needle topstitch construction (not the chain-stitch shortcut used in mass production) and and a carefully printed emblem. The fabric is heavier (235gsm vs. typical 180-200gsm), and the dye is real indigo rather than synthetic-mimic.
Will the colour fade?
Yes — that's the point. Real indigo-dyed denim develops a unique fade pattern over time, with high-wear points (cuffs, collar, shoulders, hem) lightening first. This is the character of authentic denim, and it's why we chose woven denim over a faster jersey alternative. DEE will be a different shirt in five years than she is on arrival, and the version you'll love most is the one twelve months from now.
